Message Notes “What must I do?” Scripture: Acts 16:25-34. 6.7.2026
This is a story about God using a prison, a midnight song, and an earthquake to bring salvation to an entire household.
“But at midnight…Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.” “Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s chains were loosed. And the keeper of the prison, (The head guard)—awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, ‘Do yourself no harm! for we are all here!’ Then he ran in and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. he brought them out and said, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ they then told him (they witnessed), ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.’ They continued to speak the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house! And he took them the same hour of the night and washed them. And immediately he and all his family were baptized! Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.”
We at some point in life we ask questions like these:
Where did we come from? Why are we here? What happens after death?
Today, we come to perhaps the greatest question of all: ‘What must I do to be saved?”
The Philippians jailer? asked the right question.
First. God will use Your Circumstances to Display His Glory.
Second. God Steps in our Circumstances even if we don’t realize it.
The greatest miracle was what God was doing in a man’s heart.
Third. The answer to the Greatest Question Ever Asked.
This night, what started as an ordinary prison night…turned extraordinary!
I might suggest that the best day of your life is when you realize that you need God.
You can start new; you can be born again.
